ELDR and SNAPforSeniors Introduce Free Online Housing Locator

ELDR Magazine SNAPforSeniors

(Seattle) August 15, 2007 — ELDR magazine, in conjunction with SNAPforSeniors, is providing a free online housing resource called the ELDR Housing Locator, a comprehensive, searchable database of licensed senior housing options.

The ELDR Housing Locator can be found at ELDR.com.

The ELDR Housing Locator delivers objective and comprehensive search results, distinct from other services which only post listings from housing providers who pay to advertise with them. All 65,000 licensed providers in the U.S. are included in the continuously updated database.

As the nation’s senior population grows, the need for specialized care and housing becomes greater than ever before. As a result, an increasing number of Americans are finding out how difficult it is to locate appropriate housing for an older loved one.

“Roughly one in four American families care for an older loved one, friend or neighbor,” says Chad Lewis, publisher, founder and CEO of ELDR Media. “This housing locator provides them with a simple and effective way to source and screen options for their individual senior housing needs.”

The ELDR Housing Locator is the first service of its kind to be offered by a consumer magazine. It was developed in collaboration with SNAPforSeniors—a Seattle-based information service—which provided the database and search tools.

Derek Preston, CEO of SNAPforSeniors, explained that the traditional difficulties associated with finding senior housing stem from discrepancies in state-to-state senior housing license titles, along with a lack of readily available and up-to-date information.

“There are 147 different license types across the U.S. and 20% of senior housing providers open and close annually, so it’s no wonder that people find the search for senior housing so baffling,” said Preston, “Our goal is to empower consumers by providing them with the information and tools necessary to make an informed decision.”

The housing locator functions much like a regular search engine, allowing users to search by various geographic criteria, facility name, availability status and license type. Many listings also include a photo gallery with virtual and audio tours, which allow family members to “visit” the facilities.

For more information about the ELDR Housing Locator or to perform a housing search, go to ELDR.com and click on the “Housing Locator” tab. Senior housing providers interested in profiling themselves can go to snapforseniors.com and click on “providers”.
