Senior Housing Assistance Group, known throughout the Puget Sound region as SHAG, is Washington’s largest non-profit organization dedicated to providing affordable, age and income qualified rental apartment living communities for elderly and disabled senior persons. SHAG offers nearly 3,500 affordable senior apartment units in over 30 apartment communities from Bellingham in the north to Olympia in the south, including such locations as Seattle, Tacoma, Puyallup and Kent.
SHAG’s operational philosophy is to offer a rich lifestyle to its residents to encourage and foster a sense of community within each apartment campus. To this end, numerous resident and/or staff-organized social activities are scheduled each month and include a variety of on and off site activities. The end result…a lifestyle that is as quiet or as busy as desired, with the opportunity to make new friends in an enjoyable senior community environment. Our residents are truly proud to call SHAG “home.”
Each SHAG community is access-controlled and offers a choice of one and two bedroom step-saver floor plans, central elevators, and many have private exterior common areas, gardens and social activity/community rooms designed with the resident in mind. In addition, most communities are located close to retail shopping, medical and wellness services, social services and transit systems.
SHAG and its group of developers of affordable retirement housing are the number one team in western Washington in creating quality, affordable housing for elderly and elderly disabled persons. With the help of tax-exempt bond financing and/or federal low-income housing tax credits in partnership with the Washington State Housing Finance Commission, SHAG is proud to provide affordable, high quality rental apartment communities for seniors throughout western Washington.
One example of SHAG’s quality retirement apartments is Washington Terrace, located just south of downtown Seattle and overlooking the International District. Along with affordable rents, the community offers stunning views of the city, the mountains, and the water. It also has state-of-the-art media, computer, exercise, craft, and community rooms. Residents enjoy easy access to Metro transit at the community’s front door, and a wide variety of activities in the area. |
